The communal library at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) and ZKM holds a comprehensive collection of standard literature and current publications. The library currently has around 66,000 books and media, in the areas of art, philosophy, design, architecture and media art, among others. Additionally to its focus on art, photography, graphic design and application software, the library also holds special collections in advertising design, editorial design, photography and multimedia design. Newspapers and journals can be found on the newspaper shelves. There are computers, a scanner and a card-operated copy machine available for use in the library.

The current inventory can be searched through OPAC. HfG and ZKM members require prior registration to borrow.


Library Opening Hours and Contact

For the winter semester, from 19.10.2021, the ZKM is extending its opening hours!

From Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
From Saturday, 23.10.: Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 6 pm.
The library will remain closed on Mondays.

A vaccination or convalescent card or a negative Covid-19 test no more than 24 hours old is required to use the reading stations. Please take the opportunity to pre-register to use a reading space by emailing:
(emails are processed Monday through Friday).

Spontaneous booking by phone 8100 1717 or on site is also possible as long as seats are still available.
However, it is essential for contact tracking that we register your visit, so it is mandatory that you register at the library information desk at the beginning of your visit to the library.
