The following position is available immediately at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG):

Academic assistant for CAD and digital production (75%)

Depending on personal qualifications, remuneration will be paid up to salary group 13 TV-L (at 75%). This qualification position is initially limited to a period of three years and can be extended up to a maximum of six years.

The HfG offers teaching and experimental research in the fields of CAD, surface modelling and visualization/rendering, as well as digital manufacturing processes for the university's design subjects (essentially product design and exhibition design and scenography). The early integration of CAD as a design and production tool in artistic and creative design processes is just as important as the testing of experimental form-finding and construction processes, e.g. through the use of parametric and generative techniques. Research and teaching in the field of 3D-CAD and digital production at the HfG are located between the design professorships of the specialist groups and the workshops. In the medium term, the aim is to further develop and merge the digitally controlled machines into a Digital Manufacturing Lab.

Your tasks will include in particular

  • Conducting courses in the subject area described above
  • Teaching CAD software skills (mainly Rhino) and its peripherals in design in the form of basic and advanced courses as well as project supervision
  • Research into new technologies in this field and their independent acquisition
  • Conversion of design projects into physical artifacts using 3D printing and CNC technology, guidance of students in digitally supported model and prototype construction
  • Responsibility for a 3D printing laboratory
  • Teaching presentation techniques and strategies (e.g. Keyshot, V-Ray)
  • Supervision of hardware and software in the studios (in cooperation with the technical and IT staff) in the field of 3D CAD, 3D printing

Requirements profile:

  • Completed university degree
  • Very good knowledge and experience in working with CAD software in the field of design, architecture
  • Very good knowledge of Rhinoceros 3D and its use as a parametric design tool (e.g. with Rhinoscript)
  • Very good knowledge of other modeling programs (e.g. Cinema4D or Blender)
  • Good knowledge of one or more CAM software (CNC)
